A game about beliefs
Hi! I have decided to make a game called "Disbelief".
The concept is a point and click with choices that matter, sending the player back in time to the beginnings of humanity. The story will lead the player through progressive ages. The player will encounter ideas, religions, societal norms, and beliefs in each age. I don't know what the point of the game is, or if it even has one. I think it's very interesting to think of how cultures overlap and influence each other, especially in context of systems of belief.
Making a game, especially as a team of one, is an absolutely huge undertaking. I may fail in my original goal. There will likely be very tough moments / hours / days etc. That's okay. The experience to immerse myself in the process of making the game.
Since I have tinkered with PICO-8 for a while, I decided to see if the Picotron engine might be a good fit for a prototyping tool.
I've also decided to design in the open as much as possible, in an effort to document the experience of making a game. My intent is to write about ongoing work including story writing, creating game art, and debugging game code. There will probably be lots of other things to write about. We will see!
Thank you for reading. Perhaps you will join me for the journey.
